Karen Horwitz

Karen Horwitz received her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Masters in Vocal Pedagogy from Northeastern Illinois University. She has been Congregation Sinai’s accompanist since 2007, and also works as Worship Music Director at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Slinger, WI.

Karen served for 10 years as a faculty member, voice teacher and accompanist for the Musical Theater Department at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, where she also accompanied and composed music for several productions. She has written music for modern dance and theater companies and performed at the Art Institute of Chicago Silent Film Festival, Museum of Contemporary Art and Ravinia Summer Dance Festival and previously worked as cantorial soloist at Mt. Sinai Congregation Israel, Wausau WI.

Karen continues to bring music education to her students in-person and online, and the power of music as healing in her work with students and seniors with dementia at the Silverado North Shore Memory Care Community. Karen’s ongoing projects include the recording a CD of original music and arrangements with Victor Sanders, owner of Lakeside Media Studios in Chicago. When not making music, Karen, a devoted animal lover, shares her life with two Bernese Mountain Dogs, Gulliver and Nemo, and her two cats, Chava and Annika, along with her horse, Bella.
